Who We Are
Restoring marriages through coaching, workshops, and education — for over 25 years.
Marriage Helper was founded by Dr. Joe Beam, who became one of America's leading relationship experts through decades of academic research and social science. But it wasn't just research that shaped the organization — it was his own personal experience.
In the 1980s, Dr. Beam's own marriage fell apart. He and his wife divorced for three years, during which he faced the lowest points of his life. When he reached out to his ex-wife to reconcile, they remarried — and then nearly divorced again, because they hadn't yet fixed what had broken. They committed to figuring it out. That restored marriage, and the daughter born from it, became the heart of what Marriage Helper is today.
In 1999, Dr. Beam launched the 3-Day Workshop after studying tens of thousands of pages of relationship research. An independent study by Dr. Jim Grayson at Augusta State University tracked couples for seven years after the workshop — finding that 3 out of 4 were not only still married, but reporting better relationship satisfaction than before their crisis.
We work with married couples facing crisis — whether dealing with infidelity, disconnection, conflict, or a spouse who has fallen out of love. Our programs are designed to work even when only one spouse is willing to try.
